Since the early 1980s, we have sourced Chenin Blanc grapes from the Clarksburg appellation in the Sacramento Delta. This area has provided us with delicious fruit that expresses our Loire Valley inspired roots. Most California vintners have given up on Chenin Blanc. We believe this incredible varietal has a rightful place at the table. It is the perfect aperitif wine, extremely versatile and food friendly, making it one of our most beloved wines.
From early winter through harvest, conditions could not have been more perfect. Late winter rains came at an excellent time and before the dormant vines awoke. Through spring and budbreak, the weather cooperated and frost was of little or no concern. The summer growing season was outstanding with moderate temperatures that paved the way for a huge set in the vineyard. Harvest conditions were superb with rain staying away. In the end, yields proved to be 20% over initial estimates and the 2012 vintage will go down as one of the finest in recent history.
This wonderfully crisp, incredibly refreshing dry Chenin Blanc perfectly represents our love for this classic grape variety. At first swirl, fragrant aromas of tropical stone fruits such as white peach, melon, and citrus leap from the glass. A few minutes in the glass reveal the wine’s signature mineral characters, and even some chalky notes, which are an ode to the variety’s Loire Valley roots. The palate expresses soft apple flavors along with zesty citrus and, overall, an excellent sense of balance and freshness.A perfect patio sipper, Chenin Blanc is summertime in a bottle!
